Background
One of the biggest suppliers of analytical instruments in the US sought to upgrade their 3D interactive PC-based application, which showcases their product lineup in a mineral extraction site through an interactive, multi-platform application featuring 3D animations.
The Challenges
The creation of this 3D interactive application presented the following challenges:
Design
- Creating a layout that visually depicts each step involved from start to end in mineral extraction in a single view.
- Introducing the client's product's application and function in the mineral extraction process presented another challenge for the team.
Development
The team had to include a lot of detail to demonstrate the mineral extraction process, such as heavy machinery used in actual mining and research facilities that evaluate the minerals, which would make the application heavier. Ensuring the application was lightweight without sacrificing any aspects of the extraction process posed a significant challenge to the team.
Finding creative solutions to these challenges involved brainstorming innovative ideas for visual representation and exploring different ways to showcase the client's product within the application. Collaboration and extensive research were key in overcoming these obstacles and delivering a successful final product.
Solutions
- After a thorough R&D process, the creative team developed a circular layout to showcase the entire mineral extraction process including the different stages like processing, sample process, research development and quality control.
- The team designed the application demonstrating the products roles in the different areas of the mineral extraction process. To better elevate the products, look and feel in the application, the team finalised the theme to be toon style grey shade for the circular layout.
- The animators produced an intriguing and visually appealing depiction of the mineral extraction process. The animated characters and machinery enhanced the entire application making it more dynamic.
- The design team optimised the product's CAD file and all other 3D props used to illustrate the mineral extraction process to guarantee the application's light weight and smooth operation.
Result
The final product successfully combined engaging visuals with efficient functionality, resulting in a user-friendly and captivating experience for all users. The team's attention to detail and dedication to optimization ultimately led to a seamless and immersive application that effectively educates and entertains.
The enhanced 3D interactive PC based application improved the overall user experience and made it easier to showcase the products’ role in mineral extraction process in a visually engaging way. The interactive nature of the application allows for a more immersive and informative presentation of the mineral extraction process.
