Extended Reality Case Study 15 Oct 2024

Background

The client intended to create a virtual reality experience for their tunnel freezer, which measures 20-40 feet in length. Due to the product's size, transporting it to customer sites and trade shows posed significant challenges. iLenSys was tasked with developing an innovative VR experience for their marketing team and product training purposes.

The Challenges

The creation of this VR application presented the following challenges:

Design

  • During the project, one of the challenges was creating a detailed 3D replica of the CAD model provided. The team had to ensure every intricate detail was accurately represented in the final product, requiring extensive research and precision in design.
  • Designing an environment and working with realistic textures to best display the product. The team also had to consider factors such as lighting and shadows to enhance the realism of the 3D model.

Solutions

  • To enhance user experience and decrease overall file size, the team optimised the tunnel freezer CAD Model to Optimised Model. A minimalistic environment was designed to enhance focus on the freezer's features and functionality provided a modern and sleek appearance for the users.
  • To better depict how the freezer works, the design team included animation details, which made it simpler for customers to quickly grasp how it functions.
  • By streamlining the design and adding interactive elements, like particle effects and audio instructions, the team was able to create a user-friendly experience that effectively showcased the freezer's resources. This approach not only improved user engagement but also made it easier for viewers to visualise the product in action.

Result

The VR based 3D representation of the tunnel freezer was successfully developed, effectively displaying its features. The initial challenge of transporting and presenting the large and heavy freezer to prospective customers was now resolved with virtual reality technology. The VR application allowed customers to virtually interact with the freezer, providing a hands-on experience without physically being present. This innovative approach not only increased customer understanding of the product but also provided the brand with opportunities to stand out from competitors in the market.
